Welcome from Florida! Great advice on both Shug's video and Dehoja's book. Those will get you off to a flying start. Then the cast of thousands here will answer all your specific questions. One more thing; go to the "Outings" subforum and find a group hang to attend in your area.

Welcome from a former Yorkian. I grew up in Shrewsbury, I know you know where that is. If you can wait, I would recommend you attend the Oct. hang at PGF before you buy a hammock. At the hang you will get to see so many different hammocks, and hammock gear. If you ask, most hangers will tell you about their gear, and let you try it out. This is the very best way to find the hammock that is right for you. This will also save you lots of money, because you won't buy one and find out it is not for you, and then have to sell it to get another one. "A hammock is a hammock" is definitely not true, as you will soon find out. Good luck, and I hope to make the MAHHA and see you there.

welcome from pittsburgh. the best thing you can do to find the right hammock, is to sit in them. REI is usually good about letting ppl try out equipment in the store, you can join hanging groups from your area and simply ask if they mind if you try theirs out real quick. call up your friends that have one and ask.

    Welcome from another MD-er.

I have had great luck with my Hennessey hammock (my first). I have since made my own and am enjoying the DIY game. This site is fantastic and has so many good people and info. Enjoy!

    Welcome!

I'm in Harford County, MD. Not too far from York, or Baltimore. I mostly lurk, but am going to make more of an effort to participate around here. There is a LOT of info to muddle through here, for beginners and seasoned vets alike. Everyone seems pretty cool, you'll dig it.
