    diygearsupply draped pocket bug net

I'm making the draped pocket bug net detailed at diygearsupply.com. I'm done, but for a few snaps/velcro to join the ends. Would a mild imbalance in pocket contents drag the net out of position, exposing the user to the little evil phlebotomistas?
I may add some grosgrain and some type of closure to the part that rides the ridgeline, to help keep it centered. Because Murphy's Law says I should.

If you've made one of these, how did it behave for you?

A night in my back yard may tell more than mere guessing.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I've always sewn up the two near vertical edges and put cord & cordlock closure at the ridgeline corners. Like you, I figure the wind will follow Murphy's Law and blow the net clean off. It's still easy to get out of the hammock; I just swing my feet out and they are on the ground, then duck through the bottom opening.

some bug net saddle bag ideas

Probably not a mild imbalance, if you are near a good supply of small river rock should not be a problem. Not you original question but some permethrin spray or dip on the net and especially on the hammock near where you head will be helps a lot unless you enjoy the sound of skeeters to buzz you to sleep at night. It is only slightly less relaxing than a set of rapids near by which makes me feel like I need to empty my bladder repeatedly.

Your idea of grosgrain or very thin light weight tube webbing sewn on the ridge line with an ultra light cord thru it could be good insurance but not completely necessary. A little loop of grosgrain sewn into each end at the R.L. various methods to attach to R.L. shock cord or prussic, this would probably be more than enough. I'm not sure how light you are trying to go? Bit of Omni-tape at each end so many different methods that should work. My biggest suggestion is keep the pocket weight light so when you lift your exit flap the opposite flap does not pull it over and dump it on that opposite side. Once you back yard test it all this will make more sense.

All your replies reassure me that the ridgeline add-ons are like "belt and suspenders"

I'll back yard test. Thanks, all.

    Cheers,
    Jeff.

Report back if you don't mind ... I am contemplating making one of these.
