3 Forks to Long Creek Falls on the AT

After two back surgeries for me this summer and a bout of Vestibular disease for Buddy we were finally able to get out and do some backpacking this weekend. We took the Appalachian Trail from Three Forks up to Long Creek Falls. It's only a four mile out and back but it felt good to be back on the trails again. It's a popular day hike destination so we had plenty of company at the falls. Saturday's count was 66 people and 25 dogs came to visit the falls. When we left out Sunday after lunch there had been 23 people and 6 dogs drop by to check things out. Since the ground around the falls area is not level there is no place to set up a t#*t but not a problem for us hangers. I set up on the far side of the clearing to be out of folks way and offer some privacy for camp. It was a great first trip after recovering and we're already looking forward to the next one.

I normally don't have a fire if I'm solo but my grandson gave me a folding camp saw for Father's day so it was time to test it out.

Haven't used the ol Esbit stove in a while and it did a great job of breakfast from the hammock.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

It is great to know that you are out and about again, congratulations. This hike sounds nice, like something Sophie and I would enjoy. Thanks for the pics.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Good to hear your recovery is allowing you to hike again. Buddy too!
I'm curious about your chair pictured. Looking for one with a fair backrest and is somewhat lightweight?

The chair is a Camp Time Roll-a-Chair and is very comfortable. The back rest works great for support as it rests on the lower back. It weighs right at two pounds so it's no light weight but the trade off in comfort is worth it to me.

Great trip report--thanks! (havnt been up that way for a while---makes me want to plan a return trip!)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
