There is one other pro that could be considered; it would be a good hammock for a young kid to start out with. The lack of durable construction skills wouldn't be quite so critical for someone under, or around, the 100 lb mark. It would be a good and inexpensive way for Billy or Sally to go hammock camping with Mom and/or Dad. It would make them feel all 'cool' and stuff.

I don't think this hammock is a waste of money, there are situations where it fits the bill. I took mine to boy scout summer camp and hung it up for about a week. Had a few adults and some of the boys try it out. Plus it was used to sleep in at night by the scouts (tied a military poncho liner under it) There were no complaints and I thought it to be a very good deal for the price I paid for it. Now I'm not gonna sleep in it, but for these young guys, it's perfect. It's in their price range if they want to get one and it's close enough for them to be able to say they're camping in a hammock. Add a tarp and they can go backpacking. It gets them into hanging and if they're really into it, then when they get older and get a job, maybe these memories will return and they'll look into a nice camping hammock. Both ClumseyBear and I were there camping in Clarks so the scouts could see that we were hanging the entire week.

on the other side of this coin, I agree with your assesment. This is not a hammock that I would ever want to spend a night in. But I don't have to, I've got my hammock. And I'm truly spoiled when going from mine to one like this.

I spent last week sleeping in my Parrot Bay at scout camp with the kids. It worked just fine.

The first couple of nights I used a foam pad for insulation, then I just took it out and slept on top of my sleeping bag wearing a pair of sweat pants and a polar fleece jacket.

My netting ripped one the first hang. It was handled with absolute TLC. Next day, the zipper broke. YMMV
