    G'day from Australia

    Hi guys and gals!

Yep, another Aussie. I've been hammocking for a few years now and I'm a longtime lurker on HF, but since I made my own hammock just this evening I thought I'd register and contribute :-)

We all love hammocking eye candy, so here's some I prepared earlier on my blog - a walkaround and comparison between my WWII jungle hammock and a Hennessy Ultralite Backpacker Asym Classic.

I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and hope I'm able to pay forward even a little of what I've learned from you fine folks.

Welcome from Florida. There are quite a few of you hangers down under. Someday you will have to post your secret to hanging upside down!

Oh the memories, great link good history!

Howdy from Texas (for most of the last 30 years anyway).
That was a great link to the early history of jungle and camping hammocks in general. My father first left the frozen parts of Canada in the mid 1940's and headed for the jungles of southern Mexico with a WW II army surplus jungle hammock. He soon moved on to the jungles of Peru and Ecuador wearing out many more early models of those army hammocks. After a few decades there he traveled to the Amazon regions of Brazil still using jungle hammocks and I was born there. My first camping hammock was one of those cheap knock off Chinese nylon versions which I still have but do not use. When those of us who know these things find the rare original genuine early version duck cloth army jungle hammock still in good condition we buy them. Most were worn out and destroyed. G'day ntxkayakr

Welcome to the forum and loved reading your blog.
Seeing the old wwII hamock village was awesome.
In my youth a returning Vietnam vet gave me one of those.
I wore it out and have been using hammocks ever since.
