While on the subject, maybe this is a stupid question but how do you use what's bascially a blanket as a poncho liner? I actually have a Kifaru one and it's awesome but I just don't see it working well as a liner. You'd have to have it around your shoulders like you would any other blanket and it just wouldn't appear to be very secure. If I was to make a poncho liner I'd make it very much like a poncho, ie with a hole in the middle to stick your head through. Am I missing something? Always wondered.
My understanding is that it's not necessarily used as a liner to a poncho while wearing it. But used as a liner when the poncho is being used as a makeshift sleep system. I can't find the video now, but I know I've seen one that shows exactly how to use a USGI poncho and liner to make a waterproof sleeping bag for the field. Or maybe it was a tent.

Embrace it, like a small child clutching their security blanket! Lol

Most people I know gladly paid the penalty at CIF for not returning their woobie.

Yes, this is their intended use. The poncho liner has ties in 6 locations along the long sides to attach to the actual poncho.

Inquiring minds need further analysis ;-)

Now I am really confused could someone please write up a comprehensive article; one that shows a cost analysis and CLO rating of the following:

Standard issue US GI quilted poncho liners (several different weights)
Snugpak Jungle Blanket (as many different weights as there are currently available)
Kifaru Woobie (1 lb., 4 oz. with 2oz insulation per sq yd)
Kifaru Doobie (2 lbs., 2 oz. with 4 oz. / square yard)

    explanation of CLO rating system:

OH never mind I am only joking

I'll just DIY what I actually need.

That is very funny all the countless colors and patterns of poncho liners and will a dark colored one absorb more sunlight or be mistaken for a bear in Alaska's backcountry by a nearsighted hunter like Sargeirving's "Underwoobie" article warns. LOL
If I seriously worried about things like that my wife would send me to a shrink for some strong medication. LOL Then I would need more medication for dry mouth and the shakes. LOL

So I'll throw out another woobie substitute that I'm currently very happy with - the Mountain Serape by Hill People Gear. Insulated poncho, great coat, quilt and sleeping bag all in one.

Lots of info and user feedback in their forum too.

The Brothers Hill have all sorts of well made gear. I'm a fan.
