If strength (I am 6'4" 250) were the only issue for a DIY Hennesey clone, would you use dual layer 1.1 or single layer 1.9?

I've never been a fan of 1.1 it snags easily if you camp around bushes and shrubs.
I also prefer a less stretchy hammock so the thicker fabrics work better for me. YMMV
I believe a double layer of 1.1 will have you covered to 275lbs while a single layer of 1.9 is safe to 250lbs.
EDIT: This is from Dream Hammock's site

I like the simplicity of single layer hammocks unless I want the option of a pad. Either one of your choices will work for you.

The biggest reason I am considering the double layer is economics. I can purchase the Coyote 2nds cheap enough to allow me a lot of room for "learning". I don't mind that it is a bit harder to do as I do DIY mostly for therapeutic reasons. With that said though, "learning" on $.60/yd fabric produces less stress than on $6.00/yd fabric...

As you indicated the best choice for you depends on what fabrics are available to you. Use Dream Hammock chart as a rough guideline. But heavier adds more comfort as does more length and or mini - pole mod and/or possibly a small pad at shoulders or whatever. For some folks this 3/4 (or smaller) pad doubles as campfire seat and minimizes mosquito bites etc. It "bugs" me when they drain my blood through the mesh of my tiny chair's back by the fire at night LOL.
So if a few ounces extra in ur BP means less chance hammock needs to be duct tape patched on the trail (that and Tenacious tape not always effective) then a bit heavier weight may be worth the extra training with 30 pound BP you do on local jogging trails every morning before work. This "works" for me. If I was not so lazy and had drunk more coffee I could probably "work" in some more puns there, I do what I can. ;-)
ntxkayakr, To be honest, I am a gear hound. I doubt Hammock one will be Hammock only. BUT a guy has to start somewhere and I really enjoy DIY so cheap DIY is where I want to start. The Magna 1.1 Coyote was priced where I could buy a roll and experiment to my hearts content without breaking the bank. I just placed the order. $.91/yd shipped for 84 yards. I am planning on starting with a HH clone from this thread: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ock-A-Tutorial We will see how the adventure progresses.

Keep this thread running, I'm interested to see your progress as I am in much the same position. Don't tell Tom Hennessey but I'm 10# over his weight limit for my expedition, and think about it some night as I drift off to sleep in my hammock.
I also have been looking at fabrics tryinf to decide SL or DL, I had decided I was going to do a DL gathered end clone for my first DIY and test DL comfort wise. I may just hold off to follow your reports.

I will post updates BUT with that said, I am under strict orders that some hobby stuff needs to be liquidated prior to beginning to sew for a new project. As a result some of my timing will be dependent on craigslist... Unless anybody wants some SCUBA or Paintball gear...
