the only fabric store around me that had any hammock building fabric is sadly walmart. and they only have polyester. is this any good to use? i know you can use polyester, but is there any thickness that it needs to be?

The same weights apply, 1.9 & 1.1. Poly does not stretch as much as nylon. There are plenty of hangers in poly hammocks. It is a matter of preference. Some people like the stretch, some don't. If it's all that you can get, try it & see what you think. Don't forget to post pics .
Beer won't solve problems, but then again, neither will milk !

My first hammock was a wally world polyester. It works fine!
keep your eyes peeled, cuz they sometimes have a nylon taffeta or ripstop in their $1.50 bin.
My first diy hammock was made out of ripstop polyester in camo from wallys.
Works wonderfully and feels really nice!!
I built a couple as give away door prizes that I called "prom dress" hammocks. One was literally prom dress nylon material a bright blue color, the other was the same color but polyester. The poly stretched less.
My most recent DIY was nylon taffeta from the $1.50 bin.
Works great, but very subject to getting "picked" by briars and such(that's what claimed the last one). I'm making a bag to protect the new one and I'm very careful not to catch it on stuff when I hang.

Ok, so in addition to stretch factor, has anyone done any strength/stress tests? Or know of anyplace that has? One would think that the polyester would be stronger. does anyone know one way or the other?
