    New plastic figure 9's?

    tarp biner 001.JPGtarp biner 002.JPG
I found these at walmart the other week and strung up my tarp with them. They held good, so I left the tarp up to strength test them. Four days with some 20-30 mph gusts. No failure, and no sign of wear on ridgeline.
I've eliminated the elastic cord, as it seemed too thick and heavy, and just use the clip, like a fig. 9. attached to the ridgeline tie out points, loop my line around tree, through the new clip, and adjust the tension. I finish with a slippery half, not sure I needed it but better safe than sorry.
Also put one on my hammock ridgeline, very handy for adjusting the tension, and removing ridgeline if wanted, just unclip and relax without the ridgeline being in the way.
Cost was $5.88 for an 8-pack. Very reasonable. and I have extra chunks of bungee cord with a ball attached, to use...for something.
I'm using regular paracord to attach to the trees, and the clips lock onto the tarp with a gate, similar to a carabiner. Could also use them on all tarp tieouts, but I'm happy with just moving the tent stakes.

Somebody, can't remember who, broke some of the small plastic Fig 9s. I don't think I trust them; especially when the temps drop. But, I haven't really given them much of a chance. I bought some right before the breakage was reported and never used them.

I think that these would be prone to failure.

I own & use various "figure 9" clips & biners made by Niteize... they always do a good job... They come in multiple sizes & load limits. I use them with 550 paracord...

These look like just the ticket for my underquilt suspension. Thanks for pointing them out.

I don't have any complaints about them. And to qoute Bob Barker, "the price is right". They are working nice on my adjustable ridgeline. I can lay in the hammock and reach up and tighten or loosen as needed.

I have not seen the figure 9's of any kind in Wally World, but then we still have a fabric department so I'm not complaining. I remember seeing the pic of the busted plastic figure 9 and remembering being resolved to stay with the metal. That said I tired to find the pic and couldn't under a not terribly exhaustive search. It may have been a fluke cause by a poor molding process. Another case of ...if it works for you it's all good."
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I don't think the 'figure nines' mentioned at chinamart

are like the real figure 9s.
I think I'll stick with the smallest/metal figure 9s...got them nylon zip tied to my MLD tarp and will probably add them to my McCat.
They also make a figure 9 with carabiner type clip on one end-found these perfect for bow/stern lines when running down the highway with kayaks on the roof.
