    "poll mod" for tarp?

So what's a "poll mod"? Heard it referenced on a You Tube video and it seemed to have something to do with the tarp setup, but just what wasn't explained or shown.

A pole mod is basically using tent poles inside your tarp to stretch it out to give you some more space, and also give it more structural support (instead of simply having it in an inverted "V" shape over your hammock).

Or if they're talking about something simple like making a vestibule or porch to your tarp (using poles), it's using two poles to hold one side of the tarp up so it's like the roof of a porch (instead of coming straight down to the ground).

It is any one of a variety of ways of using tentpoles to open up the interior space of a tarp. Here's a few examples.

Poll mods and Pole modifications by People of Polish decent?

Not limited to modifications made after taking a "poll" and attaining a general consensus from a wide range of the population. LOL

But seriously come up with something totally unique and creative that has not been posted before and gain great fame and little fortune, perhaps the "polls" will rate you a success. Or at least that was my opinion when the pollsters called me up and asked me. LOL
We are laughing with you not at you, there is a difference.

    I don't see anybody laughing...

    saluki, welcome to the forum.
Pole modes give you the ability to open up the inside of your tarp.
There inside pole mods and outside.

Thanks - got it now. The youtube video posted by gtstricky was especially helpful. As a noobie to this hammock thing, what's obvious to you "oldtimers" is often a complete mystery to us noobies. Thanks to all for the pointers

I thought the point of hammocks was to get away from poles and that's why there is pull out ties on the better tarps?

No the point of hammocking is to get off the ground. Some of us put hammocks in tents.
Pullout will help you save a little weight and you don't have to carry poles.
