Taught line hitch along with Hennessy figure eight wrap on HH Adventure racer

I recently purchased a HH asym adventure racer off BL.

It is unbelievably light, and it JUST fits me.

It has stock suspension and tree straps.

Instead of changing out the suspension or adding anything to it, is it safe to use the HH figure 8 wrap on one side and then a taught line hitch (through the straps) on the other. Maybe finished off with a quick release two-halh-hitch?

Obviously putting the TLH in will help with adjustability, but would this hold me up?

It would depend on the rope I would think. If it doesn't hold knots well I wouldn't trust a taut line hitch.

Blake's hitch with a safety knot on the tail should suffice. I holds my weight anyway. Not tried it on a hammock, but if I can climb on it, I don't see how it wouldn't work for a hammock.

It's much easier to tie with larger diameter rope though (as most knots are).

The suspension is polyester-sheathed Spectra, about 1/8 inch in diameter. It is pretty stiff. I will have to look up Blake's hitch.

My friends slender son used a taughtline hitch with no problems on what I believe was an either a standard Expedition or Explorer. Worked fine for him, but I have never tried it.

I have tried exactly what you describe with my HH Eped with so-so results. The tautline hitch didn't fail, but it did slip under my weight when I got in. My intention was just as you say, to add easy adjustability to the hammock. I've gone back to using the figure 8 lashing which is slow to adjust if you don't get everything centered just right the first time, but will darn sure hold you up and not slip.

I've used exactly what you have described without issues. That being said, I'm in the process of attaching continuous loops to both my HHs to give me the ability to use whatever suspension hits my fancy.

I tried the taught line and it did slip a whole bunch before i put my entire weight on it, so I will have to scratch that one. Next time to try Blake's hitch. If not, then it's the figure 8's for me.
