    Bamboo Stand

Just put together a bamboo hammock stand.

Was disappointed in the bundle of bamboo from Home Depot. It was not cured properly before shipping so only 9 of 25 had no cracks today as I culled through them for this project.

The cross beam is a very nice piece of redwood drip off of this house. The facia board underneath was rotten but this was preserved in good shape. It is 15'-9" and I used it as is.

The feet of the bamboo poles are 45" apart, which makes the angle about 30 degrees.

Used hemp twine to lash the poles together and as spacer guides below. Manila rope suspends the beam at each end.

That's my new ring buckle suspension with mule tape painted black and green.

Will need to tweak the whole thing, probably, but when I climbed in there wasn't even a creak.

To carry that long beam I'll have to put a rack of some kind on the side of my truck.

Mike, as usual with your projects, this is so cool. Points out one more time, that we are often sitting on a great solution if we just see the question. Thanks for sharing.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

    Thanks, hats.

One of the poles slipped through it's lashing twice, down to a joint -- need to find a solution for that -- some kind of fastener --glue, tape, or staple.

The cross beam needs to hang free straight down at the towers, which means re-tying the rope further outboard -- I'll need to clean up one end with a saw in that case.

Imagine -- a hammock stand like this means one can hang anywhere!

Very nice, Mike! I love bamboo.
Scratching my head trying to think how I'd fasten the three poles at the top.....

Very nice, maybe something like a few wraps with duct tape would eliminate the slipping.

Nice work Mike! Why do you have such a long cross beam? It looks like all of the dimensions could be reduced without affecting the lay or the height of the hammock?

Also, is this basically a Turtle Lady stand with a different material for the cross beam?

Now that has style, really works in the backyard.

    Thanks!

Yes, tape seems the best solution to me. I've got a couple kinds of double-sided that will probably work.

    Thanks, Red.

I think that you're right about the dimensions.

Yes, it is a knock off of other stands.

Over the years I've collected several sapling pieces that could have been utilized but they were not enough because of circumstances. Thought I'd try Home Depot but would not recommend them after this experience. 9 out of 25 is not very good ratio of usable pieces. The split pieces will have use in the garden but not for this.

    Thanks, David.

Just got a call about company coming and we might sleep in the back yard! These towers will turn two trees into several more places to hang ... if I can convince them.

I used a 2x4 inch piece of heavy duty non-skid tape - worked really well.
