    UQP fabric questions

I have a ton of 1.1 coyote ripstop from magna fabrics and was wondering if it will make a decent UQP. It's not calendered or dwr. Are those 2 traits what make a good UQP? I would like to make one but I'd the fabric I have is not cut out for it then why bother. Ill have to get something else. Our just order one from 2qzq. Thanks for all your help. Take care.

The 2 options for UQP are breathable and Waterproof.
Calendered or uncalendered - irrelevant. DWR - not necessary but a good option.
Most people i've found here (me included) prefer breathable with a DWR finish.... but DWR is completely optional.

Make it with what you have. If you've got a thread injector and 30mins make it. If you don't but have a few bucks and need one you can't beat 2qzq.

I agree with this. Use what you have. You will probably want to tweak the design after you have finished it anyway, then you can upgrade to a DWR fabric (Argon 67 or 90 would be nice) for version 2. You can trade or PIF it away if you don't need two.
I wanted to trim some of the unneeded fabric at the gathers off and it took several tries to get the right amount for my hammocks.

Donna here...It is the calendaring that makes the fabric water and wind resistant. Without this...the fabric will be almost useless in retaining the warmth in your UQ that your body has created. Also, any water splashes will penetrate the fabric easily...if the UQP is touching the UQ...the UQ will get wet.

The fabric we use is calendared and has a DWR finish. The Multicam has a different finish that makes it water and wind resistant.

Thank you all for your replies! That's exactly the info I was looking for! I don't think I will bother with the 1.1 I have. I need to make an underquilt anyhow so I think ill order some xtra calendered fabric and maybe have a go at it. Thanks again everybody!

So 1.1 silnylon would be a good choice?

I don't think silnylon is s good choice as its not breathable. Unless it's for deep cold applications. As a vapor barrier.

I would stay away from silnylon. That would be a vast trap with your once fluffy insulation inside it. If a vapor barrier is needed, it should be against your skin, perhaps with a thin baselayer inside.
