Polyester?

I got a 40" x 90" 100% polyester mummy style sleeping bag. It works to zip it around the whoopie just past the foot of the hammock and pull it up like an underquilt. It covers past my feet, up to my shoulders, If the whole setup is under a tarp, would it be a good idea to use in frigged winters(-20 maybe -30*F)? I also want to carry a Wool mix blanket in the hammock with me. If this would work for extreme cold, how low would you figure it could go(I'm used to 60 with just a sheet). Is there is anything better for cheap($100 or less) that would work down to -20, -30*F?

You don't say what the bag is rated, but I think you're gonna freeze with that set-up at -20, -30 F. Try it in your yard first.

That's a pretty radical concept - going from 60 degrees with a sheet to -20 with some synthetic sleeping bag of unspecified temperature rating and a wool mix blanket. For most folks, there's a lot of learning steps in between. I hope you have a backout plan!

When you go to 0*F and below, your in dangerous territory, death included.

It sounds to me like your speaking of a peapod type and if so, it could work. But not if only the combo of SB and wool blanket, unless your going to be in a hot tent at -20*F ~ -30*F outside temps.

Check out Shug's video of those low temps. He has used a peapod setup comfortably enough, but also had UQ/TQ included. It helps to take it all in a pulk, since it's a lot to bring in a backpack.

Have you used it on ground at 0*F?
Did you use a pad or do you have a pad?

I'm just spitballing on a budget. I'm already going to have $375 in the hammock, suspension, and tarp. And I'm considering a MSS(Military sleep system) which is another $100 I don't quite have yet. Is there anything out there similar to the MSS for a bit less? First night is going to be in approx. 40*F. Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for in northern WI.

Well I hope it comes as easy as you make it sound. Personally, my budget for cold weather sleeping is a darn sight higher than what you're talking about. My 0* setup is about $600 using a HG down TQ/UQ set. I've used it down to 3 degrees. I hope to get down to -10 this year, though I'll probably supplement the 0* quilt set with a 20* quilt set.
