My nephew is taking the fam to Yellowstone... they need a couple of kid friendly hikes for maybe a picnic or something like that... might even end up camping. Anyone got some ideas?

Donna here....It just might be me....but unless you are an experienced hiker/camper in Grizzly territory, I don't think I would take 4-6 year olds anywhere off the typical touristy trails in Yellowstone. There are signs everywhere...as soon as you go off the main trail...that you are entering Grizzly territory. We even saw several bears...both Grizzly and Black, up the hill along the road.

Lone star geyser is short/flat (most of it's bikeable). As warned don't go deep and stay on more popular trails. There are a couple of nice hikes around grand prismatic, Old faithful and or Norris geyser basins will be crowded, but you can "hike" for a few miles around all the features, and that should be plenty for the kids. Have fun!!! Be safe!!!

Hi, I'm looking for a hiking trail at Yellowstone National Park that's 1-3 miles long. I have a 4 yr old butwe are not worried about bears and mountain lions... Any ideas?

The trails around the canyon rim are nice. They can get crowded but not very tough on the south rim.

Also we picnicked at a nice quiet spot on Virginia Cascades Dr. Just a spot on the side of the road with tables and a bathroom nearby.

A simple little hike I liked was Artist Paint pots. Very capable for a little one, not much more than a mile if I recall. Plus I love the mud pots over all the other geysers. Its the one thing I remembered for 45 years ago when I first went there as a kid.
