Sleeping Bear Dunes: "Bay to Bay Trail" proposal

I came across this in my local paper today (and the link to the NPS statement) regarding the development of a designated 30 mile trail between Platte Bay & Good Harbor. I went further into the NPS site and found the original study about creating the trail. Ran into the hammocker's nemesis: wooden post stuck in ground with legal shelter/tent distances. I've run into that before in other NPS parks and not having trees within "legal" distance. The proposal is open to public comment, so I'll be adding my two cents. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

After 30 miles on the beach, you'd certainly have your fill of Lake Michigan vistas!

This will definitely be something to watch. I wonder if any friends of the dunes members are hangers. It could go along way to have a member of that group support accessibility for hammock users. We shall see. Some many great places to hike in Michigan so little time to hike them.

Interesting! And I somehow missed Sleeping Bear becoming a "wilderness" area this March. I just saw an article about it in Nat Geo.

I love sleeping bear dunes. Would be wonderful if it was hammock friendly.

White Pine backcountry campground has plenty of place to hang. As far as the main campground, the Rangers have no problems with hammocks. The primitive sites funny have the best opportunities but I have found enough to put up two on most sites. The other loops are a little hit and miss.
Its a proven fact that 78.4% of all statstics are made up on the spot.
