    When all else fails, you can get by with a single braid hollow core polypropylene ski rope until amsteel is available. It won't be as strong or compact as dynaglide, but can be made into whoopie slings to get you by. I believe it will require longer buries as well. If your son is 6'-6" and 300 lbs, skip the ski rope.

    The eye splice for class 1 ropes (olefin, polyester, or nylon) is shorter than for class 2 (dyneema, vectran, technora and zylon) by 1 fid. So it would be 2 fids for a lock stitched eye splice in something one would pick up from the hardware store.
