Flat Climbing Rope for Tree Hugger?

I searched around and couldn't anything about using flat climbing rope for tree huggers. I know it's only 1/2" wide but I feel like it might disperse the pressure enough. I don't really want to buy straps because with the cost of those and the amsteel for my whoopies I could've just bought the Atlas straps.

1" polyester straps are considered the minimum width to protect the trees. And climbing rope of any kind stretches too much to be used effectively with a hammock suspension.

I have climbing rope I use for climbing don't believe stretching would be an issue. But 1/2" rope I do think would use alot of space in a pack as opposed to flat straps but if that's not an issue for you carry forth & HYOH.
    Nothing wrong with experimenting.
Left off an important note as Trail Runner states & is mandated by parks at least here in Florida 1" minimal is required for protection & some areas here won't let u hang period. (can you say stealth camp/hang)

A set of Atlas Straps would protect the trees better than 1/2" flat climbing rope but they weigh more than a whoopies and proper tree straps.
Usually anything with the title "Climbing" in it is very expensive.
Tree straps are consider consumables and should be replace every now and then.
If you are worried about the cost of tree straps how far are you planning to get into hammock hanging?

Oh, I almost forgot welcome to the forum.

+1 Tree straps are about the cheapest item I carry. I even have more $$ invested in my tent stakes than my tree straps.

I think the OP might be referring to 1/2" tubular webbing? a.k.a. 'hero loop' webbing??
Climbing on webbing rather than rope would qualify as an entry in the Darwin Awards IMO :-)

I guess I'll try it and report back I can get it for free basically since my friend climbs if you could recommend a website for straps that'd be great but the ones I've found have expensive shipping

Webbing has its purpose in climbing, it is usually used to form the top side tie offs for climbing and rappelling. Climbing is done on static and dynamic ropes not webbing.

Blue Water webbing is about $15 for a 30' piece and is rated at 18 kN (~4000 Pounds) It is overkill for hammock use
