I definitely do not advocate the use of dead trees for hangs.

Onto my set up and notes about it:
It was really windy the first night, so despite the extremely low risk of rain, I set up my tarp. This is the best thing I could come up with on the spot for a wind block. BTW does anyone have any ideas for how to make a DIY jacket UQ adhere to the hammock better? I ended up emptying the remaining contents of my bag in the hammock and sleeping on them. Cameras and maps are surprisingly good at keeping you warm.

    My tarp tie outs:

I stuffed the end of my webbing into the binder clip to prevent my tarp tie out from slipping off.

I'm starting to doubt the utility of tent pegs. Their performance seems pretty dubious in most natural non-campground environments. In this case, they simply wouldn't stay put in the loose duff above the rock, so I ended up tying slip knots to vegetation, and then pinning the branches down with rocks. Then I would only need to snap the branch in the morning to undo it (the rope I'm using holds knots painfully well). This way I don't damage the rope with the sharp edges of the rock. I know it's not really LNT though, so I'm trying to think of an alternative.

    Beautiful view from the hammock.
I would have tied to that dead tree it looked pretty secure and there wasn't much that could fall on you.
    I enjoyed your report.

    Very nice looking spot!
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

That's impressive. How often do you go to Killarney?
