    Adjustable ridgeline help, please?

When I made my hammock I out a ridgeline in it following the 83% formula. I'm thinking it's too short for me. I saw the war bonnet video with the 60 degree bend, and mines too tight for that.

I've read on here about how to make an adjustable one, and I think I'll just go the truckers hitch route until I get it dialed in. I'll put a series of dots along the rope, so I can try it in measurable, repeatable increments. So here are my questions - what increments should I use to space the dots, and what's the longest beyond the 83% i'll likely need to go? 6 cm? 6"? A foot?

    Thanks for the help.

What does the 83% come to? I've seen to start around 108-109" and go from there an inch or so at a time (depending on how much change you see with only an inch).

Really easy to make an adjustable ridgeline - it's just a whoopie sling. There are limits to how long you can go on your ridgeline; for example, the ridgeline length of your tarp is one limit to which I would pay close attention. Don't want to find out that you love a 136" ridgeline when your tarp is only 132 inches!

Well, the hammock is 120", so I don't think I'll be going any longer than that. . Tarp is 130".

The tautness of the ridgeline is adjusted by the length of the hammock suspension. If your RL is too tight, just lengthen the suspension a little. As SilvrSurfr mentioned, an adjustable RL is easy to make and will let you dial things in easier than using a hitch.

A well tied prussic on some not so expensive paracord is the quickest way to dial in a ridge line and then when you have the length you want you can make either a fixed RL or a custom UCR

I like to use a fixed loop (surgeon's loop?) on one end, and a taut line hitch for the adjustable end. I've made them out of both paracord and #48 bankline ... The bankline won't stretch nearly as much! I like this method because you can bang one out in under 5 minutes and you don't need a loop turner or fid or any tools at all.

I do the marking as well - 80%, 83% and 90%. I usually like 80% myself, but sometimes I'll change this based on the distance between trees at the time or how tight/loose I hung the hammock.
I use a prussik knot (3 wraps with the loose end tied in a stop knot - there may be another name for using only one end vs a loop).
Both ends attach to hammock suspension via mini-biners so it is also removable.

Went out last night and tried a few different settings. Ended up with it at about 88%, which felt good. There is just so much to take into consideration. Feel kinda dumb not realizing that suspension length would affect ridgeline tension.
