    First hanging/camping trip planned

I've been testing my new HED for the past week in various places. I have a State Forest about 20 minutes from my house so I was packing through different trails and hanging my HED just to pratice for my first trip. It worked well although I haven't spent a full night in it yet. I have a trip planned for this upcoming weekend. Friday-Sunday. This will be my first overnight hang. I'm so excited about the trip I can't sleep... Thanks to all of you and the info I've gotten here on HF I feel really confident that it will be great trip. So wish me luck. As long as the black bears and timber rattlers don't get me I should ok... I'll try to get some good pics and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll be on the border of Wyoming/Sullivan Counties. Not far from Ricketts Glen. I feel like a little kid on Christmas eve. I can't wait to get there. It's gonna be a long week...

First hanging camping trip was a success

My camping trip from last Friday - Sunday was one of the best I've ever had. I'm hooked on hanging. We were about 6 miles off the road in a nice quiet valley. The weather was great Friady but Sat. night we had a very heavy thunder storm. It lasted fo about 3 hours. I was hanging in my HED dry as a bone enjoying the lighting show while my ground dwelling buddy was busy sopping up puddles of water from his tent. My H did it's job and I slept like a baby. I did have a little sag but I think it may be because the straps were new and never used. I was warm and dry and that's what counts. No more tents for me. Thanks to all of you for you help and advice I had a wonderful experience. I had my entire camp set up and ready to go in about 1/2 hour. I was carrying much less weight but I still had everything I needed to get me through 2 1/2 days. I hated to come home to my bed. ( my back was sore when I got up monday morning). Maybe I'll string a hammock in my bedroom... Don't think the wife would appreciate that... The trip was a success and I can't wait to get out and do it again.

Glad to hear about your great success right out of the box! What tarp were you using? If the stock HH asym diamond tarp, was it tied to the trees, or to the tarp prussick hooks?

I was using the stock tarp tied to the prussick hooks. I reset them to hang lower and it turned out to be a good decision because I didn't get one drop of water in the H. Because of all the info. I read about on this forum I was able to enjoy my trip. I felt pretty confident after spending 2 full nights hanging and not waking up on the ground. I knew all the time I spent reading the many posts on this forum paid off.

That's great that you had a good first experience.
Believe it or not, it will only get better from here.
You know it doesn't count unless we see pictures don't you?
