    Eno Double for THRU

Hello Everyone! I've been looking into various hammocks (clarks,HH,DIY,etc.) for a possible thru hike on the AT. My question is, do you think i could take an eno double nest for that? im 6'6" and weigh around 240lbs... i already own the eno so if i can get by with that i dont have to spend any money

Are you comfortable in it now? How many nights do you have in it? Welcome to the Forums!

Thank you! i have had numerous nights in it, but have only ever spent 5 nights consecutively. I usually sleep on my side or in the "jackhammer" position to avoid shoulder squeeze..

When do you plan to start your thru ?

What kind of tarp, TQ, UQ are you using ?

While you could use the EN DN for a thru there are IMO some much better choices for this venture.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Goo deal. My point in asking that is if you are comfortable and it works for you go for it. Good luck on your thru! Keep us updated. If you could attend a hang you would be introduced to many many more possibilities. Look at the trip planning forum and see if you can catch one close by. Cheers

I see a lot of folks complain about the eno double and was just wondering. I picked mine up for around $50 at the rei sale, and have added many accessories from the cottage venders. I've spent about a dozen or so nights in it and am so much happier off the ground. But maybe ignorance is bliss? Not trying to start a debate, but I was wondering what makes other hammocks better.

I still sleep on a tablecloth, so I don't know a whole lot and can't compare with experience. That said, I am sure your hammock will work just fine, but for $30 you can buy a dutchware argon hammock for 1/2 the weight. There aren't many ways to drop over 1/2 a pound that cheaply. On the other hand, sleeping comfortably for 120ish nights is probably worth a few pounds.

Considering the time and dollars you are investing in this endeavor, it seems reasonable, even practical, to explore a different hammock. You mention taking steps to avoid shoulder squeeze; this issue was resolved for me when I switched from an ENO DN to a Wilderness Logics Lite Owl.

At your size, I believe a 11" hammock would be a requirement for weeks to months of consecutive nights use. For your comfort's sake, replace the ENO before your thru attempt.

    Good Luck

As I mentioned in another post, @ 6ft and 215lbs, I like my ENO DL (it got me hangin'!) But I have trouble with the feet stuffing against the side. I just order an 11ft Roaming Gnome to see if that help. I am with those that recommended exploring options as you have time and money involved in your trip, and it would be a shame to not be comfortable..

I have two ENO DNs and love 'em. There's nothing wrong with ENOs.
There's nothing wrong with work boots either. But you wouldn't wear work boots to run a marathon.
