I remeber seeing a thread when another company started using a similar idea. The general consensus was that it wasn't reliable and it's probably not the best idea to have everything that touches your tarp funneled into your water bottle, even with filtering. Much safer (and probably easier) just going to a nearby stream.

Yeah my tarp has sap on it, and probably some bird poo. I get lots of pine needles and leaves on it some nights (fall camping). Not sure I'd want to just drink raw what comes down from above.

yea but I would not drink it with out using my Sawyer water filter first. It does a great job at making good drinking water

I talked to a guy at a scouting event that I was a trainer at who had them, and they certainly work as advertised, i.e. they keep the tarp tensioned by adding weight to the corners as the tarp gets wet.

I made a set out of small funnels used to fill coleman gas tanks. Drilled a hole on the other side from where the chain that came on the funnel was. Drilled a hole in a bottle cap and epoxied the funnel on to the cap. Hook the chain from the funnel to the corners of the tarp worked great. Kept the tarp tight and collected clean water. We drank the water with problem. Tasted a lot better than the water we collected and filtered from Big Cypress a few years back.

I have found them to be cheap and hard to find a bottle that works well. I suggest using a ridgeline for your trap, it's lighter and packs better no sag.

Sil stretches, especially when wet. They do work to act as a self tensioner so when it rains the tarp just gets tighter. Filter before using for sure.

i have not got to use my typhoon fly in rain so not sure how much it will stretch when it gets wet. the fly has 3 tie outs on both sides and Iuse the shock cord. will those help keep it tight when it gets wet or should i use the HH2O when calling for rain.
Also with only 2 of them I think that would work for the standered tarp but how would you set them up on the Typhoon or the Hex fly to keep it tight.
