I tend to hang around 2 feet off the ground in my diy speer. Im not sure why, but that seems to work for me, as a chair and a hammock its a very comfortable height. Im not afraid of falling, but, I did have a knot slip one time, and it does kind of hurt, so its not a bad thing to be low to the ground!

I use a DIY bridge hammock. I want my feet to hit the ground when I swing them out to exit the hammock. If your feet are not on the ground exit of a bridge is difficult.

any heard the stories of Ed Speer when he was paddling the Inside Passage along Alaska and British Columbia--it is said he would climb way up into trees and hang his hammock rig, sometimes 10-12 feet off the ground....this when bear activity was really high..????

    Thigh high hammock

I came across this video when I first started looking for info on Hammock Camping.
    Hang a hammock
I guess the idea of a "thigh high hammock" just sort of stuck. I do like the idea of breakfast in bed though.

I am 6', and useing the stock BB suspension. I like the trees to be twelve of my steps away from each other, hung at forehead height, This allows me to just touch the ground with my toes while sitting up in the hammock. Allows me to kick off and put on my shoes. and If I leave somethign on the ground I can just reach it with my hands
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

As high as I can get it, something about floating up in the air always gets me. I haven't been out when it's cold yet so morning cocoa (blegh to coffee) might be nice, but I just love my hieghts.
