    New Central Illinois Hanger

    Hello All,

I am new to hammock camping and have very little experience. I have done some research and so far I think I like the Warbonnet line of hammocks. Haven't enjoyed my first hang yet. Time will tell. I look forward to spending some time with you all and appreciate any information/experience that you share. I have the BB and SF from Warbonnet ordered and cant wait for them to arrive. I have my first camping trip with my oldest son coming up. He is a brand new cub scouts and is very excited to go camping for the very first time. I have been looking at hammocks for a bit now and thanks to my son, I have an excuse to give the wife for buying them. lol. I will keep you all posted.

    My setup so far:

Warbonnet Blackbird XLC Double Layer 1.7 with Winter Cover
    Warbonnet SuperFly in Digital Camo
    ENO Atlas Straps
    Thermarest Neo-Air Xtherm Sleeping Pad

    Still need to get:

    Underquilt
    Top Quilt

Welcome to the forum from just down the road in Canton. There a couple of us in the area that are of the... hanging crowd. I have a BB and few others and my friend a couple of blocks over has the XLC. If you like to try an underquilt / topquilt just let me know, I have a couple that you could use for a night. Once you get use to it there is no going back for most people. I have several tents that have not been used now for....o...let me think.....a long time. Again, welcome to the forum and many good nights of sleeping ahead.

Thanks for the welcome firecaptain53. It is awesome to have some hangers close by. I just purchased an Incubator 0 from the wonderful people over at Hammock Gear. I cant wait til it comes in. Where do you guys trek off to around here? I would like to get some hangs in before the weather goes to total crap this year.

Sand Ridge State Park is a wonderful place to go in the fall and winter time. They have back country camping (hike in) and a car type camp site too. They do have hunting in the area so you would have to check on park conditions but most of the back country stuff is usable. The summer time to a no go for the most part, too hot and no air flow (thick pines) and since it is sand, hiking can be difficult. Another great place to go is Siloam Springs State Park, a couple hour drive but beautiful in the fall and winter. Jubilee State Park also, you can camp anywhere in the back country but no campfires are allowed. Most people do not know about Jubilee and it is not advertised (last I knew) about the back country camping. We also take our boats and go down or up the Illinois River and hammock camp / fish along the way. Well enough rambling for now, hope this helps.
