I don't have panel pulls on any of my tarps, but I always carry a couple of grip clips in my pack. I can add panel pulls, extra tieouts, or all kinds of other useful stuff, at a moment's notice.

Here are some pictures of a day where I got caught with 20+mph winds hitting the broad side of my Big Mambajamba tarp, and used a grip clip to give myself some more room inside.

Does the SWT have seam sealing or do I need to do that also?

Speer uses a spray seam sealer that is reported to last a year or two. I used Permatex Flowable Silicone Windshield Sealant to seal mine.

IIRC, there is a thread on here about Philmont; try a search. I believe the policy is "no hammocks" and they are firm. Seems like they also enforce a triangle camp policy (cooking, sleeping, living areas) with an iron fist. Look for the thread for more accurate info... or contact Philmont.

    grrrrr.....

Don't you love how in trying to "leave no trace" they forget the options that never create a trace?

How many stakes do you need to set up the SWT? It seems like it would use a TON of stakes, but im not really sure...

A ton of them...If I had to say one negative thing about the SWT is that it takes 8 stakes to pin that sucker down. There are ways to get by with 4 but to make a nice tight pitch it is 8. I have also been known to use sticks and rocks and trees in place of stakes. 8 sets of guylines and the two ridgelines can get a little bit...liney.

    I still like it though...

Now that I think about it more, carrieng that much aluminum is really almost a deal breaker for me, and Im sure that I will end up with the SWT, but after I get a job... The OES Delux is lighter, and uses less metal. I have 2 really good choices, and really it might come down to the stakes.
