EGL Trip to 2015 Minnesota Frozen Butt Hang

It looks like January 15-18 is the date for this season's event. I would volunteer my vehicle and share driving duty for any other hearty souls that would like to go.

Winter is the best season to hang. No bugs. No bears. Silent forest. Who's up for it?

    Hi Ggreaves,

I'm sure you've already done the math, but that's an epic 18+ hour winter drive ONE-WAY you're proposing. You're one hard-core dude! As an alternative, you might want to consider flying from Toronto to Minneapolis for around $450. Rent a car there or avail upon the good graces of a fellow HF'er for a pickup and you're all set.

18 hours is like driving to Myrtle Beach. Only, at the end when you get out of the car, there's no beach. Just snow. Also could be dicey driving up the northern michigan penninsula and along the south shore of Lake Superior that time of year. I don't think I'd be able to get all my warm hammock stuff, snowshoes, toboggan etc, as luggage on a plane for $450. It definitely won't fit under the seat in front of me.

If anyone can make it up to TBay we can get you down to the hang from here. It's a hell of a lot closer than Minni.

There are a couple of us interested in going. I know I can pack my hammock / shelter / quilts etc and get them on a plane. Is there any chance we might be able to borrow a couple pulks or toboggans? Maybe snowshoes too? I know it's a lot to ask.

I'm sure we could work something out. If DeRozea is coming we have two pulls being used. If not, the. There will probably be an extra for use. I should be able to rustle up some toboggans as well.

I got confirmation for the days off. I'll be looking to head out Wed 14th. Any final decisions from you Southern folks?
