When I converted my HH suspension to Dutch cinch buckles, I first tied the stock Spectra line to the Dutch cinch buckle and it promptly cut through the outer sheathing. I switched to web in and am good to go. I know amsteel and Spectra are vastly different, but that tight turn would make me nervous. I think the carabiner has a considerably larger radius, and I wouldn't be concerned with that.

Very interesting. I've never thought to do it this way before. Glad to have that in my bag of tricks. Thanks.
Got it (and added to my bag also). Thanks

I've had this conversation with my hanging friends and I agree wth you. The weight savings is minimal. I have way more selection on trees with my full straps than when I was using whoopies. Plus the people I know who still use whoopies usually bring "extra stuff just in case" so the weght savings is even less.

And I get less stretch with straps.

HYOH. It was fun trying the whoopies so I've done it both ways and will stick with straps. I'll find my weight savings somewhere else.

I used my tree straps for a while with some descender rings and it worked ok, but the webbing and rings are heavy (for ul) so im moving to whoopie slings. Whoopieeeee!
