    how do you hang

How do you hang? I run a cored from one tree/post to another then I hang my hammock from the cord with some prusik knots and carabiners. That's way I can I just the sag how ever I want by moving the knots up and down the cord works perfectly for me

    Please use tree straps.

Do it for the trees and the future of hammocking.

I like your use of prusiks on a continuous hammock ridgeline.
Nice hang spot you have there too!

Hope you will invest in a set of tree straps soon

the other option is putting the line through poly webbing....

DO SOMETHING to protect the trees you're hanging from. It's good for all of us if you'd do that.
You don't HAVE TO be crazy to be here - But I assure you it will help.....

    Theduffman,

First off, welcome to the forums! There's tons of good information and great folks here. I just wanted to give you a little background on the replies you're getting. Members on this forum take conservation very seriously, especially when it comes to hanging hammocks. Using just a piece of cordage can dig into, mar, and potentially the bark of tree. Being advocates of proper techniques and doing our part to impact the environment as little as possible is how hammocking is growing so much. Unfortunately, as often happens, people get hammocks and don't necessarily understand the techniques out there to minimize tree damage.

The tree straps you see folks talking about are generally 1" or wider wide poly straps which get wrapped around the tree.

These straps distribute the load across a wider portion of the tree and limit, if not eliminate, the damage that would be caused by a thinner line. There are about a million and three different ways to set it up going from the tree strap to the hammock and everyone has their own opinion about what is best. The important part is saving the tree so that someone after you can hang from it too. I hope that clarifies people's answers a bit.

TL/DR: Damaged trees = piss off Park Rangers = banned hammocks. Tree straps save trees.
