The Blackbird I have is a double layer (1.1 weight fabric). In-between the layers there is plenty of room for air mattress/foam pad/CCF/etc. There is no standard weather shield (though there are rumors that Brandon may have custom made such a product on request). The OES MacCat Deluxe tarp I use with the WBBB has kept me dry in rainy conditions with 35 mph wind gusts, though wise hammock hangers will always seek out sheltered hang spots (e.g. the lee side of hills/ridgelines) away from the worst wind exposure.
