    Minimalist Tarp ...

With new guy lines from Ultralight Designs.

    It weighs only 6.4 ounces.

That includes the 9x6 foot .74 ounce CF tarp, Stingerz from Dutch with Lash It tarp suspension, and the guy lines, using knots and sticks for stakes.

Teamed up with my polycro system of peak beaks and UQ protector it is good protection from the weather for an UL set up.

    Thanks, dkurfiss.

Yes, made the tarp before a May trip to Arkansas for my first true UL hike.

Since then I had a brutal summer hike that really hurt me. But the pack was not the problem. It was the heat.

On another hang I decided not to use the tarp and it was a mistake. Things dropping on you at night is irritating.

Then we had rain and a chance to really test it last week. Four nights in a row, one with a violent T-storm, proved that it could stand up to the worst.

I am envious. Someday I will bite the bullet and try a cuban tarp. I am not there yet with my skills. You, obviously are. Hoping you enjoy many happy nights under it. I would worry about the width, but it worked so all is well.

I assume the beaks that you make and the UQP are the reason you can use that small of a tarp. Really nice set up

I've made two. The other one is 9x10 feet.

Yes, it is difficult material and I suffered from having no help. SGT ROCK had his great wife to hold things while he carefully taped things together. Did you see his DIY video?

Thanks! Yes, the polycro is so light. I should probably weigh it out.

Tried it on the first hammock I got. We have tremendous wind here. I immediately felt the benefit of having that polycro peak beak at the foot end of the hammock. Under a bug net there is little chance of it tearing. The move to UL use was a natural progression of what I learned before, except I cycled through a pair that was entirely too small.

Believe it or not, I actually woke up in the middle of the night last night and watched sgt rocks tarp vid. I am pretty sure this hammocking thing has become an obsession...

Watching it, I am pretty sure at my current level of competence, I would glue the cuben into a big balled up mess with my hand somehow stuck in the middle.

That level of patience and attention to detail is a challenge for me. You have obviously conquered these skills, thank you for sharing.
