As always maintenance on all of your gear keeps it running long... I used to hate doing preventive maintenance on all my gear in the Military but weather it was diving or surviving... taking your gear out of order for a week to get it all tuned and greased is awesome... leaving stuff up of time just makes things brittle (the elements eat away cliffs I'm sure your tarp will be faded in no time...

I too live in the City... to be honest the best tarp I have for city life is a nice bed spread that I purchased at goodwill... but a cheapo-tarp is def the best way to go esp if you have a amazing hammock the the bonnetttttt! (could always sell it and make back some money if you don't plan on using it for camping or out and about)

if I was hanging in my backyard I would get some heavy duty UV poly cotton canvas with RS !

did a lot of extended expedition stuff and poly cotton canvas is the norm in places like Africa and OZ for extended living etc..
in Africa lots of places have tents and awnings up year round for tourists !

had a really nice African tent made out of it and the tarp setup was always about 15 degrees cooler under it so it really really blocks the heat and the light unlike nylon which seems to exaggerate the heat
and its water proof also never flaps in the wind even if it loosens up awesome but heavy material

another great option is sunbrella while not quite as cool as poly cotton its lighter and can be found many places in many colors might be your best option to rig up a home shade awning

I worked on boats a good chunk of my life in the islands and we used poly cotton day in day out for years on our boats to shade tourists talking 55 foot sailing cats

I have tried 303 on some cuben fiber scraps, and I think for this purpose it may work well. I will be interested in hearing how it goes with the silnylon.

I've had a WL OMW setup for 500+ days, treated it once. Tarp is doing well.

Only now switching to some old EZ-Up tops that are being repurposed.

No no no. Not selling anything. Guys don't get me wrong I get out to the woods all the time. The back yard hangs are for when its around 4 o clock or so on a weekday and I have a hankaren to hang.

4PM to sun down? I see no reason to treat your tarp. I probably wouldn't even put the tarp up unless you thought it was going to rain.

could always get some snake skins for the tarp... easiest **** deployable and hassle free set up i have ever used!

covers them up with ease and keeps them out of the sun...

I was just watching some videos on those. Any recommendations on a brand? It would seem to me that the netting type would have the chance of snagging on something.

U of Miami (Florida) did a test I heard about in the 80s. Testing nylon fabric life. The conclusion suggested 50% less strength after 2 years of continous exposure. UV was the culprit.

I just got the Yukon Outfitters for my back 40 hanging spot to save wear on my Superfly. It's black and blocks the sun better than the Fly. It seems a great day hike tarp for the money. Doubt I'd use it for overnight if wind or rain were expected.
