    Cinch Buckle Challenge

With the very reality of those ever elusive Ti cinch buckles from Sir Dutch hitting his web store nearing I thought it would be interesting to discuss what would be the lightest cinch buckle setup could be now.

I have a couple of the Harbor Freight yellow cargo straps, those seem to be the thinnest and lightest straps used for hammock hanging. I've tried to find those on the harbor freight website a while back and just now and have yet to find them so I think I'll try to swing by at lunch today and see if I can scoop up some if I can.

So, what are the lightest and most compact straps available one could hang with. I seem to remember those harbor freight straps were rated around a 1000 lbs since the same straps were used on tiedowns with heavier duty ratcheting buckles.

    Thanks for sharing your expertise.

I also have the Harbor Freight lashing straps. I bought them about 2 months ago but still see them advertised. I mainly bought them because they were inexpensive, didn't really consider the weight. That being said, I'm curious about what others have found.

Thanks! I found them using the term "lashing".

This looks like the same strap but with a larger loop sewn in the end.

I have a strap that is about 7'1" if you include the loop it weighs 35 grams so about 5 grams/ft. They are $4 for 2 12' straps, I break off the buckle and put a dutch buckle and triglide on it. Used to have a set of butch buckles but left them behind once with my ditch clips, that was a bad feeling when I opened the suspension bag....luckily I left them the last day out.

    So, 5 grams/ft and about a mm thick@ $.25/ft.

My scale shows 55-56g for a 12' strap, no hardware; 4.6g/foot

Interesting Comparison HF straps are only .5 oz. heavier than standard straps & whoopies, and .6 oz. lighter than standard straps.

    Straps & Dutch Ti gear 2 - 14' straps - 130 grams, 2 Ti dutch clips - 15 grams, 2 Ti cinch buckles - 19.11 grams = 164.11 grams or 5.8 oz.at $44.

Straps, whoopies and Dutch Ti gear - 7' straps, 6' whoopies, dutch clips, dutch hooks = 150 grams or 5.3 oz. at $58.

    Dutch straps - 12' - 148 grams @ $10, 2 Ti dutch clips - 15 grams @ $18, 2 Ti cinch buckles 19.11 grams @ $22 = 182.11 grams or 6.4 oz. at $50.

Dutch's new Ti cinch buckle sure changes the weight differences between hammock suspension options and adding HF straps really narrows the weight gap.

If anyone knows of a better volume and weight strap option please share.

(Edit found error, I initially only counted the weight of 1 HF strap, changed that deleted unnecessary verbiage.)

I have used the yellow HF straps with cinch buckles for years, but I'm pretty sure the ones I got were 15 feet and 1500 lb break rating. I see these are 1200. No doubt they vary some over the years.

They have been my go to as well for my short time in hammocks, I use short ones with UCR's & whoopies and various hardware with no failures.

I hope there is a US manufacture with a similar product.

The 1 in yellow HF straps with buckles are 12 ft. I use a bunch for various reasons. At the price it's cheaper to buy 12 ft and cut to length. ;-) I would not trust the buckles anywhere in a hanging setup.
    YMMV
