Thank you all for informative and enjoyable reading.
Have spent many good hours on this forum.
Have begun to suspect we are beginning a long path of gear collecting.
Considering future hammock camping; presently intrigued by the vast possibilities.
Expect that our senior years of car trip-camping will be enhanced
by hammock camping. Particularly in 'remote walk-in sites'.
Currently :
We are tent campers using a hammock for the pleasures of afternoon naps or reading
or hanging out enjoying the landscape or stars.
Recently got a ENO DoubleNest ( very recently got another SingleNest for when
we both want to nap; and a bugnet not yet used).
The Tarp :
Hanging out in the rain is our current need for a tarp
( we camp in the Catskill Mts (NY) one expects rain ).
Originally, when first doing research here on the forum, thought there would be one tarp
for now and could serve the future hammock camping for one of us.
Now know that is not necessarily the way to think of it.
Heavy rain, wind and cold will require proper coverage.
Already have learned much about the options ( perhaps a MacCat or other similar ).
Currently : a tarp to shelter in the rain yet allow viewing the landscape.
Have considered ENO's flys but see less costly selections and some negative comments on the forum.
Have seen images of the Kelty Noah series ( can be picked up in a store ).
Will 9' be big enough or the 12' too large a setup to simply cover one hammock?
Or should we jump in and make a larger investment and not regret it over time.
( Don't expect we will be doing deep winter camping, at least not both of us. Yet, I am intrigued. )
Have delayed a choice too long, therefore asking for opinions and advise.
