    Smile Greetings

Hello I am new here and a hammock hiker from way back but I haven't done it for several years. I take care of my Mother who can't do anything for herself and when the day of change comes I plan on getting back into using my hammocks.
I got inspired today to dig out a few of my hammocks. There are 2 that I bought and 2 or 3 that I made. One of the manufactured ones that I'm holding in my hand right now is a TROPICAL HAMMOCK by Nomad Pharmacy Ltd, 3-4 Wellington Terrace, Turnpike Lane, London N8 (I think I have their bug net also). I think I used my homemade one more then this one. I also have a mesh one that I got from US Calvery that I have gotten a lot of use out of (I'm thinking of getting a 2nd one). The main one that I was using I made from a bed sheet. The net ones that I made I learned how to from THE ASHLEY BOOK OF KNOTS. I love that book. It has tought me so many things. I love the story and picture of hammocks on page 589. Do a lot of you have this book?

Hey pickinduck, welcome to HF! You & I have something (besides hammocks) in common.
My mom, who has many health issues & can barely make it from one room to another w/ the walker now, lives here w/ me at my house & I look after her.
They took care of us, now it's our turn, right?
Good to have you here. I hope you'll find excitement in looking forward to getting back into hammocks! ...Tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Welcome to the forum. now I have to go to Barnes & Noble to find that book. I could never remember the name but I recognized the cover when I Googled it. This book was very popular with Boatswains Mates that I knew in the USN.

ABOK...the bible of knotting. It's on my coffee table.

    Welcome to the forum.

Also, what you're doing for you mother is commendable. My wife and I went thru some difficult years caring for a parent but the sacrifice was worth it. Doing the right thing is its own reward.

Another knotter here! Got my copy of the ABOK for my 16th birthday, and still pick it up at least once a week. I actually found hammockforums.net while trying to find information on knotting a hammock, whether paracord was usable, how to do the ends, that kind of stuff. Now I've made a hammock, bugnet, and tarp, and am about to start on a poncho. :O
I also just got into turk's heads, which are awesome.

    Welcome!

Thanks for the replies so far
acercanto the last thing I was doing was designing and making slings. A new idea just hit me a few days ago for a totally new cradle design that I am going to try an make soon. That Peruvian kind of braiding is awesome with all of those super cool patterns.

I love ABOK - I keep a copy by my phone, a long with a length of rope so when I'm on conference calls I can keep my hands busy tying...

    Welcome!
