It works very well in cool weather. I find I don't have as much of a need for a pillow in a hammock as I do for ground sleeping, so my 'pillow' often becomes either a clutch device ( keeps my hands and arms out of the way while I sleep ), something to cushion my knees if I sleep on my side, or a general purpose cold spot 'filler'. I'm a pad hammocker so having something warmish I can stuff into a cold spot without fully waking up comes in handy.
I love the versatility of your setup though as it seems to be perfect for modifying your pillow for so many different sleep methods.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm starting to make my own pillow so they fit well into my hammock. I'm glad I came across this thread as there are many interesting suggestions I might follow. What I truly want is a versatile pillow that can be used in any kind of temperature without me getting uncomfortable using it.
Exactly! During warm weather I just use the climashield insert, cold weather gets both inserts. After lots of trial and error, I settled on 6 inches of loft which compressed to the right amount I need to be comfortable. I also find I don't move around as much at night with a smaller pillow. The rough texture works very well, but I have to point out that I have a buzz cut. Those with longer hair may not like it as much.
Very nice! But that next to the last photo reminds me a little too much of Dutch's pee bag. I'll never be able to get the image out of my head of Dutch staring at me while he peed in his video.
