    Hello,my name is Dave,I live near Lucedale,Mississippi.
I just discovered hammock camping a few weeks ago when a friend loaned me one of his extra hammocks to go on a camping trip, and now IM HOOKED
This is better than sleeping in a tent on the ground anyday.Ive really learned alot from this site, and im about to place an order from ripstopbytheroll.com and start my first DIY Tarp and Hammock project.
    Wish me luck,I'll need it

Welcome to the community, this is a place of kindness, learning and sharing.

A few tips before you start your project. Buy a little extra material, because every time you make something you will think of ways to make the next one even better. Measure twice, cut once and sew slowly. Use lots of pins and mock-up everything you can before you make it permanent. Don't be afraid to ask questions, because everything "Hammock Camping" was created by the people on this forum at one time or another, we have made all the mistakes and won't hesitate to help you avoid them. Good luck, and don't forget to post pics, we're all gear hounds

Thanks for the warm welcome and the DIY tips.I ordered 8 yards of silnylon, maybe that'll give me somewhere between a 11.5 to 12 foot ridgeline.
I hope that's long enough, the hammock im making will be 11.5 feet.Im so new to this, its all trial and error at this point.

Thanks for the warm welcome Fronkey.
After watching your D.I.Y videos over the past few days, you have motivated me to attempt my own D.I.Y project.
You have a way of making things look so easy, and fun.
I have everything I need ordered for my project. The only two things I don't have is one of those custom Fronkey sewing machines, and an awesome dog like Tala for moral support.Yip Yip
I have your D.I.Y videos on speed dial,so I should be good to go with my project.
    Keep up the good work

Welcome to the forums from another Southern Brother from Madison, MS! There are a growing number of hangers from here.

I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the MS Group Hang being held on November 14-16 at Clear Springs Lake Campground in the Homochitto National Forest. It is squaring up to be a well attended affair and will give you a chance to meet a few of us face to face and see how everyone approaches their own hammock rigs, including some DIYs.
