    Tarp over VS under ridgeline

I place my tarp over my ridgeline, but have seen others suspend it below the ridgeline. What is the advantage of suspending it below the ridgeline?

Better question: why would you hang the tarp over the ridgeline? Because you want friction and wear on the tarp?

When I got my first cuben fiber tarp, it did not come with a cat-cut ridgeline - I had no choice but to run the ridgeline under the tarp to get a tight pitch. It annoyed the heck out of me that I had that rope rubbing against the tarp - I could almost hear it.

I have eight tarps and everyone has a ridgeline over the tarp.

Eliminates the chance for water to run down the ridgeline (the next morning I switched to under the ridgeline).

    Good luck'

yep, what others have said. The only time I run my tarp over the ridgeline is when I'm expecting a heavy snow load. Other than that it rides below the ridgeline.

Some tarps like my WB Superfly have a cat cut on the tarp RL so suspending the continuous RL above the tarp allows the upward bend of the tarp's RL which in turn helps with an nice taut pitch of the fabric. I actually just tie the ends of the tarp to the trees with no continuous RL which has the same effect.

I go tarp over. It just seems faster. Put up the line, hang the hammock from the same line, toss the tarp over and tie it out. I use 5/32 elastic as tie outs.
No signs of wear from rubbing.

I liked Tarp over so I could use the Ridgeline to hang "Stuff" (mostly clothing) under shelter. Now with a Cat Cut Tarp I don't use a CRL, just tie off the ends; and add an under the tarp clothes line if needed.

If using a short pole mod, tarp under eliminates any problems of the poles rubbing on the tarp.
