I was struggling to get a neat rolled hem where there was a curve on the material so looked at some sewing tutorials, I see people are using a rolled hem foot on the sewing machine. Is this useful for ripstop and silnylon?

One - can you get the rolled hen foot part for your thread injector
two - can you use it...some people use them and love them and others like me do it the old fashion way of folding and pinning the fabric.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
I have never gotten a rolled hem foot to function properly. I think they are more trouble than they are worth. That said, some folks have had stellar results with them. You pays your money and takes your chances. Personally... I wouldn't bother with them for home style DIY. Learn the basics and you'll never have to rely solely on gizmos. Commercial sewing is a different beast. It might be worth having a dedicated hemming machine if you do a lot of it.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Bobbin Tension - A Personal Viewpoint
Yeah, I've heard people from all over the skill spectrum that've had mixed results. On really long hems, like on tarps, I can see the desire. I've HAD that desire to have a hem foot. But I tell ya, using binder clips are pretty phenomenal if you hate pinning.
Just practice. I can do a very consistent 1/4" rolled hem using a 1/4" hem foot (just a foot with a guide 1/4" from the needle) and rolling by hand. No pins required. On gradual curve's it's not much more difficult, you may get some twisting due to material bias, but a rolled hem foot wont prevent that. You can cut relief notches to help though, if it concerns you.
I had plans of grandeur and purshsded a 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4. All are a PITA. I just roll and sew (inject) and do not pin. It's gets easier every time.
I have an attachment the screws into the base and have had decent success with it. I've used it on 1.1 and 1.9. There is some fiddle factor involved and I still end up ripping some seams out to do it again. I'll be trying it on some argon sil in the next day or two. We'll see how that turns out.
Fold and stitch, fold and stitch. 13.5' in 5 minutes is fast enough for me.
