MO; Hawn State Park 11 & 12 October

Thinking of doing a "low intensity" over night hang at Hawn State Park this weekend. Current plan is to go to nearby Pickle Springs and hike that loop; jump back in the car and head over to Hawn state park. Hike 5 or 6 miles and then find a place to hang. Sunday morning I'll probably just hike out and return to the real world.

If anyone joins, I'm flexible and can pass on the Pickle Springs part but if you've never seen it, I highly recommend it. If you're interested but would like to consider another location; let me know and I might be willing to change my plans.

Just need to get out into the woods!!

Hi DC...

Weather will be cool with a pretty good chance of rain

Saturday; high of 56, 60% chance of rain, low of 48, Sunday, high of 62, 30% chance of rain.

It'll be real fall weather; rain gear and a tarp essential. Would enjoy your company. If you want to go, let me know tomorrow; if you've never done Pickle Springs; let's meet there at 10:00 am. We'll hike that and then hop in the cars and head to Hawn. Ever been there? If not, we can do a short loop and hang and then walk out in the morning. I'll check the site/pm's tomorrow throughtout the day. If I don't hear from you, no problem, I'll press on but if you want to meet me, please let me know.

I'll be breaking out my 20 degree top and bottom quilts for this one just to be comfortable without trying. Thought about going with my 40 degree set but since it'll be relatively low mileage, I'm going to go for comfort over weight

.. I could meet you at Hawn, I have never been to either, but I live in Arnold, so it wouldnt be a long drive at all, my father in law lives down in Crystal City/ Festus area. What time do you think you will be at Hawn?

I will have to rig up some kind of top insulation tonight, all I have is a mummy bag (synthetic fill) (cheap) and it compresses into the size of a buick....

It should take you an hour to drive to Hawn from Arnold so let's plan on meeting at the Whispering Pines trail head at 1:30 pm. I drive a old red Toyota Rav4. I expect it to be wet and then more wet so bring your rain gear!

Hopefully those pics display correctly. As for the tarp, that is just a 9x11 camo tarp from Harbor Freight, that I got on sale for 3$ then folded it in half and made a hex and put some grommets in there, and poof! tarp, it worked pretty well also...
