    That is good advice.

Another thing I will do.. is relive my bladder at strategic locations around my camp. Particularly by any trails, gaps between rocks, etc.. that any animal might use in passing.

I don't count on it to keep animals away; although I am sure it does in many cases. I do this mainly to warn any inbound animal that I am there and to lessen my chances of a face to face encounter with a spooked animal.

The weak limb note reminds me that I'd probably get myself killed hanging in a deciduous forest. Fir and pine tend not to drop branches, they just fall down. And that takes a lot of wind, unless the tree was obviously sick to begin with.

The major issue I look at is not to block a well-used path, and secondarily I like to have a walkable campsite, but that's not critical, I can hang over a rock field if I have to.

I did a search on lightning and came up with this thread.
I know that there are certion trees that get struck by lightning more then others. There have been studies but I can't remember which ones they are. I think No.1 was one of the pine trees (I don't know which). You would have to consider Florida throwing the stats out of wack. They lead in lightning stricks and have mostly pine trees.
Isn't there some one here that works with trees or in forestry they should have this exact info?
