The is a Hike & Hang. Group size will determine the starting point. I have planned Friday check in at camp drive up. Saturday hike 9 miles no water until we reach camp that night. Sunday 6 mile hike out no to shuttle trucks (my ford).
This will be some of the toughest Florida hikes around. We might see as much as 30 feet of elevation change. LOL. Just kidding besides the lack of available water sources this is a great hike. It follows what was supposed to be the Florida barge canal route. We will be crossing over the Florida Land bridge over I75. This is short notice but I'm looking for a small group test run. If everything goes well we will plan to do this again.
We will be hiking the Western corridor of the Florida Trail between Dunnellon and Santos FL in Marion county.
Friday nights camp location has been picked. Shangri La camp ground and trail head. We will camp here Friday night then chose where to hike from.
Meaning we can hit the FT through a 1.5 mile connector trail or drive to Ross Prairie in the morning to start hiking. The part we would miss is some of the best trail in this area if we skip it. We can make that call as a group
Saturday night Trail head location. We will camp 1/4 mile west of here. We will be spread out a little as usual. Spots to hang close to the fire pit are big oak trees. I think a 8' strap would find it hard to make it around.
The numerous squirrels are going to have a field day with a poorly hung food bag. It's going to be interesting to see if they can work out how to get a well hung bag. Lol.
Your bear bag skills will be tested.
Ending location. Large paved parking area for cars.
