Howdy folks,
My name is Nino, and I'm glad to have found these forums. I did my first hang this past weekend on a short stretch of the Benton MacKaye Trail in North GA. It was a borrowed Eno double nest, and I rigged up some insulation as best I could, going off some of the great advice on these forums & videos on youtube. Super props to Shugmery! Love your vids man.
So my first hang was a success. Super comfortable...even better than my bed at home. I used my old thermarest inflatable, very thin pad but I was limited in options. Temps were going to be in the 30's & we were right on the edge of the Toccoa so I wanted to do whatever I could. I set up my sleeping bag on top of the pad, both on the diagonal, and then used my jacket zipped up to make a sock to hold my feet on the pad during the night. I had no issues with being cold. Cool yes by the early pre-dawn, but not cold. One night and I was sold!
Final result is, once I got home on Sunday, I went to Warbonnet and ordered up a ridge runner, cloudburst tarp and full length 3 season under quilt. Totally hooked, so I'm all in. Hope to use the hammock for backpacking, kayak & bike camping. I've rambled on enough so I'll end and say once again, glad to have found y'all!
