Hello, folks! My name is Eric, I'm from the St Louis, MO area and am entirely new to the Cult of Hammock. I've been a camper since...well, a long time using my measuring stick. I've been a hiker for about half that time. Except for sleeping bag(s) and one of several tents, depending on which portion of the family of 4 is going, I've got all my gear in 2 foot locker boxes. At the drop of a hat I can be packed and ready. As long as you remembered to pack the cooler already.
I was looking to meld these two favorite pastimes of mine and start doing some backpacking. At the same readiness level as my camping. I even built the alcohol penny stove and made some whoopie slings already. In researching tents, I discovered you can use a hammock for camping. Who knew and why didn't they tell me sooner?
I've done the tent and bag routine for a long time. I've spent breezy afternoons a time or two on a beach in a hammock and many afternoons in the typical spreader-bar style hammock in the backyard. I'm sold on the hammock for backpacking. And now I'm here to learn from the experts!
(Anyone with tips regarding the Ozark Trail would be a welcome guest, BTW!)
