Thus very cool. Dis you remove anything from the width of the bag? Most TQs seem narrower than an open bag. Makes me want to try something like this with my sleeping bag. Do you think it would work with a down bag? The down recovered from the removed bits could go into my UQ or be used to make a camping pillow!
I only removed a small amount of width with the zipper removal you could easily do that though. On your down bag just shake the bag to get as much of the down to migrate away from the edge you plan to cut, then run a stitch line to keep the down in the bag while you cut and remove the zipper... Be sure to share pictures!
