What is the best down proof fabric to make a quilt out of.
there is no best. do you want camo? do you want the extra durability of 30d over 10d?do you want a certain color?
those things will play a major part in chosing.
Yeah. Best could mean many things. Down proof 1.1 ripstop nylon is what I've used in the past. Argon is softer and lighter, but any fabric that is softer and lighter is typically less durable. However, My next quilt will be out of argon.

look for a calendared, and breathable fabric. The calendaring process fuses the fibers together to make an otherwise non down proof fabric, down proof. when yu build the quilt, make sure the shiny side is inside.
You also want an uncoated fabric so it breathes. Pairing a breathable insulator (down) with a non breathable shell isn't the best option. A
DWR (durable water repellant) 'coating' is recommended as it will shed water better; although the calendared fabric does a pretty good job at that.
If a fabric has those attributes, then you can pick a weight and a color. otherwise, don't waste your time building something that won't last!
