New to Forums, not new to hammocks.
started with the old "jungle hammock" many years ago...put up with it for a long time, until i discovered HH online. yay! took a few more years to get one though. lol.
started sleeping in hammocks early on because i have lower back problem. for years i was the only person i knew of that slept in one. now, 20 years later, it has really seemed to catch on! mind you, the new designs are the reason why. that old jungle hammock was terrible. it leaked, it was narrow to the point of absurdity, the zippers stuck in the mesh, and one often tipped out of it. luckily i am a small and short person. no idea how a soldier ever would have survived a night in one of those. lol. i learned to sleep without moving a muscle all night.
i was a back country guide, horses carried the gear, so weight was not so much of an issue. that old hammock weighed (with rope) about 6 pounds!
now i often carry my own gear. gasp. and prefer light, & compact. however, i will not compromise on warmth, nowadays. age maybe? i used to just use horse blankets under me...now i use down. warmer. smells nicer, too.
so hello, all. i will enjoy reading all of your posts. your ideas will be assimilated, your technological uniqueness added to my own.
