Tried this method at my first group hang. I guess I didn't get the top on tight enough. nuff said.

I use the collapsible 100oz Nalgene pouch (not a bottle per se) and make sure to push the air out before sealing it so that the seal is pressurized. Also don't heat my water past the point where I'd get burned if there was a mishap - coffee drinkin temp is just right. And OBVIOUSLY you want to test it adequately before slipping it into your rack!
I've done this for years. Nalgene's don't leak so no bag is needed. Fill the bottle full of boiling water, sock it, and slide it in the quilt. On cold nights I use 2 bottles: 1 for thighs or kidneys and one for feet. The next morning I've been able to have really warm instant oatmeal from the hot water bottles. If the water's not warm enough, it'll boil much quicker since it is already warm.
posting in an epic thread!
I never tried this since I usually keep warm and it seemed like too much effort when I just want to lie down and crash for the night. But I must try this next time for the simple fact that heating up the warm water next morning will get me coffee much sooner than trying to boil 33° water!
as a cold sleeper i just might have to try this one.
same i cant wait 2 try.... yet not sure i need this indoors when hanging from the ceiling joist.. thanks forums 4 the info.
I have used the Nalgenes without incident. I am going to test out the semi-soft Sawyer Squeeze water bags for hot water, and see how they fare. If they work okay, I will skip the weight and bulk of the Nalgenes, although we have bonded together for a long time!

I've even used this method in the house when the heat goes out. I kept me quite warm.
