    First Hang Report

A group went to the Sipsey this weekend and I took my HH Expedition for the first time. It sure was nice. Friday night went down to the 40s and Sat. night got down in the 30s. I used my Speer SleepPad and it was great, even in the 30s combined with my Sierra Designs Arrow Rock 15* Down Bag (first use also). My toes did get cold though. And it only took me 5mins to get situated in my bag on top of the pad Over all I am hooked, but I think I may the EXPLORER ULTRALITE. I am about 6'1"@210.

PS: How high is the bug nut suppose to be above your head? It seemed the "ceiling" was low, but the ridge line was tight.

Looks to be a WONDERFUL camp.

What is the SPEER SLEEP PAD?

I don't see a mention on their site.
Looks like all the insulation is inside..

Do I understand this correctly, your only insulation, aside from your sleeping bag, was the Speer Pad? Is that enough usually for most people when your expecting 30-40 deg temps? I only have the standard Wallyworld CCF pad and no UQ but haven't tried it below 50 degrees or so. I have been considering some sort of UQ lately but haven't decided which way to go.

I agree 100%. I to have been pondering the same questions. after a trip to the army surplus store I was considering laminating two pads together then cutting for the inside dimensions of my hammock and using that with no undercover.

Other than toes did you have any issues with pad bunching or not staying under you?

    Sorry for the delayed response.

Yes, all I had was the Speer SleepPad and my sleeping bag.

The Speer is really grippy and didn't have a problem with it sliding around. I just received a DL 1.1 Warbonnet Blackbird and can not wait to try out the double layers with the pad.

It will work well, and stay in place even better. You may have to spend a few extra moments getting it in place, though.
