I have two things to say Gunner,
Beautiful!! and Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!
You will get it right, just takes experimenting. Looks like you're there! I can't imagine 18* with blood thinners Thanks for sharing!

You just need something for your hands and feet, then you will be a winter warrior! Ditch the cotton socks for some loose, thick wool ones. And add insulated (down/polarguard) booties. Want to really roast those feet? Add a set of vapor barrier socks (or bread bags/wrap) UNDER all of the above. Just keep it all loose and non-restricting.
Add wool or insulated MITTENS for the hands, maybe with some thin waterproof (VB) gloves next to skin.
Lastly, if you are not inside one of those sleeping bag hoods, add a thick insulated hood. Keeping your head and neck toasty will help shunt blood towards your extremities. As opposed to the bodies 1st response to a cold core- shutting down blood flow to the extremities. Or so they say!
I had a fleece hood and gloves on so my head stayed warm but not the hands. I have a problem with wool as it makes me itch like crazy.
I have camped out in a tent with the same down bag and a foam pad in much colder weather and several feet of snow wearing less than last night. The difference is the blood thinners, just a couple of minutes in the cold yesterday setting up the tarp and hammock and my hands were pale white and stiff... hot chocolate break time.
Still had a good time.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
I have another 3+ months to go, just in time for things to start warming up. My wife said she decided not to poison me as I have probably built up an immunity to the rat poison (warfarin blood thinner)I just got off the thinners a couple of weeks ago
Would I do it again, yes. I figure any time spent in hammock is time well spent.
Glad we could help out with the shuttle and that you made it out OK. Sorry the hike did not work out. Can't wait for the trip report and picturesI was out Gunner's way this weekend as well (full report on the frozen coast coming soon!) and with some help from his family started on the Neusiok with predictions of a 'dusting' and lows of 24F.

told wife I have enough insurance to take care of her but not enough to make it worth her while. we have been married for 34 years so I think I am safe.Sleep with one eye open...
